The paper is devoted to the search of a generalized definition of deflationary theories of truth, discovering their shared principles and identifying their essential aspects. The paper discusses the most important types of deflationary theories and identifies their particular features. Appeal to the ideas of the equivalence schema and the lack of underlying metaphysical nature of truth provides for a generalized definition of deflationism about truth. The paper also critically evaluates the arguments of G. H. von Wright against the equivalence scheme, and demonstrates that his argument against the equivalence scheim is unjustified.
