The paper presents a comparison of the teachings of Aristotle and Plato focusing on manifestations of irrationalism which originate from the dualistic character of their philosophies. The highest and lowest levels of the structure of the Universum - the super-cosmic mind and matter in Aristotle’s philosophy, and the idea of goodness and matter in Plato’s philosophy, have been compared. The specific nature of the irrationalistic tendencies in the teachings of both philosophers has been analyzed, and its connection with the philosophers’ views on the highest and lowest levels of the structure of the Universum has been revealed.
