Abstract:
The Journal of Economic Literature (JEL)
Description:
Researches of streams of foreign and domestic scientific publications on economics are carried out in the Institute of Economics and Industrial Engineering of Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences and in Novosibirsk State University already for a number of years. These works pursue the following purposes.
First, we try to construct some “atlas of economic knowledge” in order to estimate better the role and tendencies of each unit of an economic science, to reveal what is really a perspective direction, and what is the next “fashionable” trend. It becomes more and more important in view of transition to a knowledge-based society.
Secondly, it is known, that, while analyzing publication activity and interrelations between various areas of knowledge (for example, within the framework of the morphological analysis), it is possible to hope to find “blank spaces on the map of economics” that will have theoretical and practical value.
Thirdly, such “mapping” is useful also for development of university education at different levels. It is possible to impose curricula of economic specialties and syllabuses of separate disciplines on “maps” of scientific directions and main research results in order to estimate a degree of their co-ordination.
The book offered to attention of the reader, represents a combination of a scientific monograph and an original reference book on all sections of an economic science proceeding from the subject classification of American Economic Association, which is accepted in the advanced countries (see chapter 2) and two authoritative databases: “ Journal of the Economic Literature” (chapter 3) and Social Science Research Network — www.ssrn.com (chapter 4). Authors not only presented a set of the tables describing the publications in an absolute and relative expression, but also provide the concluding analysis of the received results in chapter 5.
